Storage
Where Spotnote saves your notes and settings.
Spotnote saves your notes in your browser and writes nothing to your project. With spotnote-mcp running, the notes are kept in ~/.spotnote/ and the browser keeps a copy. Nothing leaves your machine.
| Key | Storage | Holds |
|---|---|---|
data-spotnote-pins | localStorage | Your notes: each note's text, its element's stamp and position, the page it was written on, and the last prompt it produced. |
data-spotnote-launcher-corner | localStorage | The corner the launcher was dragged to. |
data-spotnote-panel-size | localStorage | The note panel's size, once you've resized it. |
data-spotnote-settings | localStorage | Your Settings: accent color and theme. |
data-spotnote-open | sessionStorage | The note to open after the notes list switches pages. Removed as soon as the new page reads it. |
With spotnote-mcp
- While spotnote-mcp runs, it holds the notes, and every browser with the app open shows the same ones.
- It saves them in
~/.spotnote/, so they outlive your dev server, yournode_modulesand the browser tab. An agent sees them even before you open the app. - When it isn't running, Spotnote uses your browser's own copy, as without MCP. Notes written meanwhile join the server's the next time it runs. For a note on the same element in both, the newer one wins.
- An agent only sees notes from apps inside the folder it works in.
